Homecoming

Dear Brothers,

For those of you who were unable to attend, Homecoming was a great success this year. Countless hours culminated in a wonderful experience for all. As Brother Jenner mentioned in his earlier post, Curt Arndt (class of ’78) was a major player in orchestrating the large number of alumni that returned this year. Over the last few years we have seen a large increase in the number of alums that attend Homecoming and hopefully that number will continue to grow.

Saturday morning started at 4am for a few brothers and all of the pledges, helping Dru to cook for the event. By 6:30 all of the brothers were up and putting the finishing touches on the house. The first alumni straggled in around 8, with the majority showing up at around 9:30. Around 80 alums had attended a meeting the night before organized by Curt Arndt. The festivities included a large tent that encompassed the basketball court and surrounding grass area, tailgate games, house tours, and great food. Seeing the alumni come back and interact with each other as if they had never left was a great example of how our brotherhood transcends time.

After the game, the annual Alumni meeting was held. The points of the meeting were that Doug Wing is requesting help in running the affairs and for anyone willing to give a few hours time to contact him. He also wanted to focus on fundraising and rush. While he will be handing the fundraising part, he did ask for alumni participation in rush.

I took the opportunity to plug purduecrows.com as well as talk about the current affairs of the house. The aura was that this was the most welcomed that many of the alumni had felt since graduating. Some were even near tears with the amount of work that had been put forth to welcome them back. With the obvious exception of the bathrooms, they were impressed by the state of the house. I told them that this initiative was started, and through grooming and brother interaction will continue with the caring brothers that Crows has. The alumni wanted to ensure that the values and brotherhood that they remembered was still intact, and even they were impressed. They felt that this was a good group of young men to help evoke change and growth with. Some asked about financial statements and Doug said that those should be ready by year’s end.

When we took the photo of all of the attendees, we flooded the front stairs and spread over a good portion of the porch, exclaiming Amaci. With alumni, family and friends, the turnout was extremely successful. For those who attended, thank you! Your presence was deeply appreciated and we look forward to hosting you again. For those who were unable to attend, please mark your calendars for next year, as I am sure that it will be even more extravagant than this year’s Homecoming.

If any of you have any questions or would like to stop by the house, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

In the Bond,
